IN ORDER TO WIN, YOU NEED TO BEGIN. ARE YOU READY?
Welcome to the year of the rabbit, a year that symbolises prosperity, peace and longevity. I’m sure to many of us this new phase also brings with it a huge sigh of relief after the turbulence of last year.
2022 was a hectic rollercoaster ride that saw us fall under the thrall of the Tiger, a disruptive, feisty, impetuous (but benevolent) feline.
Tiger years are characterised by dynamic activity, which played out in the form of global upheaval, market disruptions and Government interventions. While it was often painful, in many ways it was also remarkably instructive, giving us pause (albeit forcibly) to face financial, emotional and social challenges head on.
In a philosophical sense, perhaps it was the year we had to have in order to gather courage to go into 2023 with more focussed goals and a commitment to purpose.
So here we are in the Year of the Rabbit, the water rabbit to be more precise. For Chinese culture, the rabbit is a tame creature representing hope and life for a long time. It is tender and loving, a symbol of purity and auspiciousness. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are gentle and approachable with a decent, noble and elegant manner.
But don’t be fooled by the image of cute little bunnies bouncing around all over the place. The rabbit’s quiet personality hides their confidence and strength as they steadily move towards their goal, gracefully ignoring any negativity or distractions around them.
This is a trait which very much reflects the Ironfish philosophy. Since opening our first office in 2006, we’ve been steadfast in our belief that property investing, and more specifically our signature Portfolio Approach is the best way to achieve long-term financial wellbeing. Our strategy of acting, not reacting, has seen us help over 12,000 customers create their own path to financial freedom.
The water element in the Year of the Water Rabbit brings with it good luck and unexpected opportunities. This will be a lucky year for many, and I encourage you to be open to new possibilities and create your own luck by getting back on your goal journey and remaining focused.

When I first came to Australia as a new migrant, I had little knowledge and even less money. Everything I have achieved since then has been as a result of setting one goal after another. I cannot emphasise the importance of goal setting enough as I’ve experienced first-hand the difference it can make to your life.
“Goals are like magnets. They’ll attract the things that make them come true.”
~Tony Robbins
- When you’re thinking about setting a goal, let’s say it’s for a new car or saving for a holiday, you start opening your mind to what life is going to look like and feel like when you achieve it. You can almost taste the excitement of driving through the countryside in a convertible you’ve always wanted or relaxing poolside in a luxury hotel without a care in the world. It’s the same when you’re setting a goal to build a substantial property portfolio. Can you imagine what your life would look and feel like knowing you and your family are completely financially secure? You’re free to retire whenever you like and enjoy a lifestyle that allows to indulge your every passion without a moment wasted worrying about money. Suddenly your everyday life has a new sense of purpose and keeping that goal in mind motivates you to keep going no matter what.
- Having a goal to reach invariably means you will act with more accountability. Holding yourself accountable for certain outcomes helps with decision-making as you’ll be asking yourself questions such as “will this action move me towards my goal or away from my goal”. When we set goals, we are giving ourselves something tangible to work for.
- In life, priorities are key if we want to accomplish anything. When we set goals for ourselves, we automatically start to prioritise what’s important in our lives, and what we need to do or change in order to accomplish our goal.
“Today is the opportunity to build the tomorrow you want.”
~Ken Poirot
Having a clear-cut plan for life increases the likelihood of us achieving what we want.
In my experience, it can also lead to a more fulfilling life, and I’ve always found that setting goals makes me feel happier and more productive.
On that note, I’d like to invite you to attend my first webinar for 2023, in Mandarin. In this motivational session, I will personally share with you my own investment goals for this year and delve further into how setting goals can drive success in real estate investment and wealth accumulation.
Until then, I wish you all the peace, prosperity and luck the Year of the Water Rabbit promises.
